“I feel very honoured to have been able to lead the United Nations Association Malaysia (UNAM) as its President for the last 25 years since its inception in 1987.
The opportunity to have been involved in the area of international relations and cooperation in United Nations activities have been most fulfilling for me and for my beloved country.
Having served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, I strongly believe in the existence and importance of the United Nations and its role for peace, security and prosperity. The participation of its members must be perpetuated and continuously nurtured in all aspects of multilateral as well as bilateral relations. I strongly advocate country to country cooperation
for a peaceful world without conflict, without aggression and noninterference. Issues like global warming, climatic change, the environment, renewal energy, poverty, GATT and international free trade must be addressed. I also support and encourage people to people contact and understanding of each other socially, culturally and religiously. Politically and economically, member countries must respect each other’s sovereignty, national integrity and independence.
This is my wish and aspiration to continue to give leadership to UNAM. The citizens, especially the youth of the world, members of the United Nations must cooperate for a better world.
I am determined that UNAM should achieve these objectives.”
